FRENCH, EARLY ART DECO, SAPPHIRE, DIAMOND, AND EMERALD BRACELET


Designed as old European cut diamond, round emerald, and platinum floral motifs, alternating with square step cut sapphire and single cut diamond, and yellow gold-topped platinum square links. Total diamond weight approximately 8.00 - 10.00 carats. 7 inches long.
Stamp: (French assay mark) 1103.

Overall Condition: French assay mark for 18 karat gold, acid test indicates the white metal is platinum. Shows signs of wear due to age and normal use. Nicks and some abrasion to the facet junctions of the sapphires, two emeralds have chips, the others have nicks and abrasion. Chips to some diamonds. Diamond Characteristics (graded insofar as mounting permits)Color: H-I-J, some single cuts are L-M+. Clarity: SI, some I. Mrs. Stuyvesant Fish, better known as 'Mamie' earned a distinct reputation among the 'Gilded Age' society of the 1890's. As the wife of Stuyvesant Fish, president of the Illinois Central Railroad and a descendant of the last Dutch Governor of New Amsterdam, Mamie was naturally at the center of New York's social scene. In 1915, The New York Times wrote, "Mrs. Fish gave the most original and sparkling entertainments of any New York hostess." She entertained at the still standing Italianate mansion designed by Stanford White at 25 East 78th Street or their Newport, Rhode Island mansion.Current viewers of HBO's Drama 'The Gilded Age' will certainly recognize Mamie Fish as the larger-than-life socialite portrayed by actress, Ashlie Atkinson.
